We are at war. We are being opposed. Unfortunately, American soldiers are dying.
I wish that all our men and women could come home. That is not going to happen.
What they are doing is necessary and needed. The war on terror must be won. We must stand and fight until we are safe.
Even after the death of Saddam, there still may be resistance... This resistance must be met... and we must stay even though American soldiers may die.
In the end... each death will be honored as the price that was paid to make us safe from Islamic terrorism.

You'll get no argument from me on those points. Whether the combat troops who've given us our excellent results to date are the best choice for the occupation duties to follow is another matter, however, and those particular troops have certainly earned a return home with their victory. I know of no bettwer way of guaranteeing future successes than by so rewarding those there now, and sending in Military Police and other forces trained for the occupation and control of civil populations role, such as the 8000 or so now in Kosovo and Bosnia.
Unless, of course, the troops there now will really be staying for the next 5 years, or the next decade, just as those in the former Yugoslavia stayed long beyond the time they and the American public were promised that they'd be returned. In that event, this administration is no better than the previous one that gave us that lie.
And I strongle suspect those combat troops, of which we have far too few of as is, are going to be needed elsewhere very soon. Having then bled white in nickle-and-dime quantities in the meantime is not at all the way to prepare them for what they'll be facing if and when that comes to pass.
