These are the kind of people we need in this country. Look at that ingenuity... That is a brilliant design.

True... and there's NO plastic in that truck. It's all steel.

Exactly-part of what made this country great was a form of social darwinism. Usually, the brightest, hungriest, ballsiest people come here. Take Arnold for example. Rather than be content in pristine Austria, his inner drive brought him here and generated billions (movies, fitness clubs, etc...)out of thin air.

I may be biased (my wife is Cuban), but every Cuban I have ever met has strong family values, works their tails off, and contributes to society. Some of the most patriotic poeople you will ever meet escaped from some communist hellhole.

I am against illegal immigration 110%, however, in this case, I have to agree with you... great design and great humor... we need these guys.

Hats off to them and I hope they survive the evils of Castro. I can't believe we sank this classic '51 pickup.

You're not kidding. I have been studying it on various news sites for a while now.

You think they have a screw hitched up to the drive shaft and the engine running? Wouldn't be that hard, really, if you could just keep water out of the engine.

They don't have a sail rigged, so they must have planned on being more than just a raft.

God bless them. I bet they were born in Mexico and could just hop the wall in the dead of night.

Hey I was right. Here is a caption that goes with a different angle shot:

Cuban migrants trying to reach the U.S. coast in Florida ride on a 1951 Chevrolet truck, converted into a marine vessel with air-filled drums for flotation and a propeller driven off the driveshaft for propulsion, July 16, 2003. REUTERS/U.S. Coast Guard.

I bet they try again with a more camoflaged design.
