An estimated 400 BILLION dollar cost to the kids.
Nice, real nice.
Sheeeeeet, next thing you know they will expect the kids to pay their damned car insurance to...Because well, they are the largest voting block alive and they deserve it.
Answer from some here: Great, perhaps we can take care of your monthly cable fees too!

Sorry, not going to happen. They will fail on the 16 words, too--Bush's real concern on the foreign policy end is his failure to plan for post-war Iraq.
O'Connor will never be a rallying point for anyone, nor the topic of a Democratic political ad. Anger at her is a much better issue with no negative political consequences, and it would resonate with people, because most people are against racial preferences and sodomy.
Bush doesn't even have to single her out personally--just criticize the court's decisions as "contrary to common sense," "destructive of government by the people" and "contrary to self-rule."

You say potato, I say potahto. I didn't vote for an 18% increase in discretionary nondefense spending, and I'm not inclined to re-elect a candidate who gave me one.I have no problem with that.

And before you rant on now this. Medicare Perscription drug Coverage RAPES my childs financal future. And NO ONE ask them whether they wanted to pay for 50 years for a benefit their Rich Uncle gets. Hell no! Just stick it to em. YOu ought to be proud to support such Fascism. The price we pay for our form of gov't. Either these trade offs or a dictator. The good with the bad.
Something I notice about folks who stamp their feet and cry like you are doing is they never see that all of life is trade-offs. It really is an immature view of life.

I don't call a redistribution of weath a trade off. More like sticking the bill to a group of Americans that can't speak (politically) for themselves that will affect the kind of live they are able to live.
Damned sorry excuse for being Mature if you ask me.

The Constitution and the Bill of Rights were designed to prevent that sort of "either-or" scenario. Of course that assumes that such documents are adhered to inthe first place :<

He had either get his act together and represent the Right, who put him in office or he can start making plans come January 05.That's the Conservative Death Wish mentality that lost the White House for us. Bush 41 should have been reelected whether he liked it or not. With several possible Supreme Court vacancies coming up, we can not let the Dems control the nominating/approval process. So, electing the GOP nominee is very important, even if it's Bush.

Do Republicans really support smaller government? Here are some interesting facts:
- Republicans controlled both Houses of Congress from 1995 through 2001 during which time the federal budget grew from $1.4 trillion to $2.1 trillion (about $100 billion annually). [source]
- Since Republicans took control of the House in 1995, federal discretionary spending has grown by a rate of about 7% annually. The number of earmarks lawmakers have put in the spending bills to steer federal funds to their districts has also grown. By one estimate, between fiscal years 2001 and 2002, they increased from about 6,300 to 8,300, or 32%. [source]
- Social welfare programs under George W. Bush have grown by $96 billion in just two years, versus $51 billion under six years of Clinton, according to economist Stephen Moore of the Club for Growth. [source]
- When Ronald Reagan became president in 1981 the federal budget was $680 billion. When he left office in 1989 the federal budget was $1.14 trillion -- an increase of 67%. [source]
- The last Republican presidents to preside over a decrease in federal spending were Warren G. Harding (who served from 1921 until his death in 1923) and Calvin Coolidge (who served from 1923 until 1929). During that time federal spending decreased 44% from $5 billion to $2.85 billion. However, spending began increasing again in 1928 before Calvin Coolidge left office. [source]

In the meanwhile, I think that we actually help Bush's chances by making things as hot as possible for him, on his increasingly severe deviations from traditional American values. The only chance he may have, is if we scare him into moving in our direction, and it is essential that that move be sooner, rather than later. I am amazed at the number of people on conservative website who consider that statement to be heresy. In the name of pragmatism they will loudly denounce any attempts to pressure the Administration to move to the right as enabling a Democratic victory.
Holding the present course does not reverse the slide to the left. The vector has changed slightly in magnitude, not one whit in direction. Ultimately, who is behind the wheel or the steepness of the arc as you're going over the cliff is immaterial.

Yes, since the welfare state is completely unconstitutional, George Will is basically saying that violating the Constitution isn't inherently unconservative.
That seems pretty obvious, from viewing the actions of the vast majority of conservative politicians. But it's surprising to see a conservative proclaim a complete abandonment of an ideal.
To: Mark Bahner
Yes, since the welfare state is completely unconstitutional, George Will is basically saying that violating the Constitution isn't inherently unconservative.I agree on both points. BTW, I am launching a study into the creation of the welfare state in America. I would appreciate anyone posting here or FreepMailing me some sources.
My goal is to create an essay on the precise moment when we jumped the shark. I suspect it was when FDR expanded the Supreme Court to nine justices so that his new appointees could outvote those Constitutionalists: the Four Horsemen who slapped down the first attempts to institute the New Deal.
