Whether you know it or not, you just invoked the tired, old "Blood in the streets" lie. There are thirty-five states that have Concealed Carry Laws with no problems. And how many of those states have a population size and density equal to NYC? There are more people within a four clock radius of City Hall in lower Manhattan than the entire population of South Dakota. Indeed, the New York City Mass Transit system moves more people every day than the entire City of Atlanta. The entire population of South Carolina would fill only a portion of Brooklyn. What works in some places, including upstate New York, where carry is legal, is not practical in a NYC.

It doesn't matter how many people are in New York. It only matters how many people are in the vicinity of a bad guy at the exact time. There very well may be more people in the vicinity of a bad guy in Alaska as there were in the area of the shooter in the New York City Hall.
Are you going to tell me no one gets mugged in New York because witnesses are piled on top of each other?
