I live and work in NYC too...I hear what your saying. Its really easy for people to make flippant remarks about stuff like this when they are sitting somewhere in the midwest or down south..but stuff like this strikes those of us who are a FEW BLOCKS alot different..especially having gone through 9/11...

Thanks for the post.

I know I'm weighing in on this thread a few days after the fact, and I'm only up to reading posts in the 200's as I skim through. But, I stopped here to post to you and let you know I agree with the sentiment of Nepoleon Solo. I have been reading some slightly crass and some crass to a greater degree...statements made in this thread while two HUMAN lives were hanging on by a thread. Judgements were being made left and right about the Councilman as well. It is normal to speculate about what was actually going on of course, but moral judgements were flying high in the midst of this. Are these posters really do superior to be able to do this? I know I'm not. I'm not even judging those who posted in this fashion, just saddened by it.

I do not live in Manhattan but I do live in NYC, Queens County. Councilman Davis was not my councilman but I understand that he was a decent and caring man, something to be respected regardless of some of his perhaps misguided ideas. I am sure he's done some good in his work as well. Like I said, I do not live in Manhattan but this shooting hit VERY CLOSE to home for me. My son works for a city councilman, had in fact spoken with Councilman Davis as the entered City Hall together that day (his blurred photo is on the front page of the NY Post on the surveilance photo...he is the man facing the camera and facing Davis...as he and Davis approach each other to greet one another)in a suit seen between two other people, not in suits. I THANK GOD that my son, who had been in the chambers moments before the gunfire broke out, had just stepped out of the room to retrieve something needed from the office of the councilman for whom he works. I believe it was the grace of God that kept him from being in harm's way and from wittnessing this horrendous incident. This shooting has grieved me deeply. I am NOT in fear for my son's safety because I know security is the best there, and he has a better chance of being a target outside on the street or in the subway than in that building. But, even though I am not fearful I am sorrowful and disheartened that such a thing has happened. Two human beings in the prime of life are no longer with us and therefore, cannot be so glib about this whole thing. This was not natural death but MURDER...and that, gives me reason for pause.

Sorry for going on so long. Thanks for reading.
