One of our local schools is taking the same approach. Their discipline problems have devolved to table etiquette. I've often said that the best way to raise and teach a child is to explain how what they are learning relates to them. If you teach them early their place in American society, they are more inclined to participate in their own education. It gives them a foundation for their knowledge.
You have to give them a reason to strive.

My kids went to public school in Jefferson County, AL. We had a very active, vocal, and conservative PTO. With the exception of some of the City Public Schools most educators in Alabama are conservative. If you take a few systems out of the numbers Alabama's national ratings are much higher than one would think. Both my kids are now college educated and CONSERVATIVE PATRIOTIC AMERICANS. Education begins in the home and maintenance stays in the home.
