Of course, it's not going to happen, but who's pushing this?
That my friend, is the billion dollar question.
I pretty sure (and sadly so) that Tony Blair will be looking for work soon. ;o)

Enhance your calm, citizen :)
You are correct; who could have known a Stallone film was prophetic?

which prohibits any but native-born Americans from being president or vice president. Can a non-native born American born to American parents be President?
For example: The child of American parents serving overseas in the military but not born on a military base hospital.
Just curious.

Can a non-native born American born to American parents be President? No. Alexander Hamilton, the soundest political mind this country ever produced was unable to run for President, and now we are going to ammend the Constitution so that a RINO bad actor can?

Orrin Hatch needs to be recalled. This man is dangerous to our Republic!!
To: mr.pink
Actually, his job is to get Bush's judicial nominees passed, and he is failing miserably at that.

This is a ridiculous idea. It seems ONE position in the U.S. can be for native-born only. I think having cabinet members even with foreign affiliation can be risky, and we've had a few of those.

(Admit it; Amendment XIX is very much to blame. And, yes, I'm happily married to one who agrees.)
To: Drew68
Yes, this person could be president. Can't remember the situation, but it came up once in the past. As long as the parents are Americans, the person could run.

It sure is.....but it's probably a lot more fun to play "let's pretend" than to play "judicial street fight" with the Dems.

Does anybody remember the movie, "Demolition Man", with Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock?,... the Bullock character mentions President Schwartznegger. ... and Bullock explains that Shwartznegger was so popular as governor, that the Constitution was amended to allow naturalized citizens to be president. Life imitating art? I saw a Laugh In rerun one time, with a newscast from 1984, which was a decade and half or so in the future of the original broadcast date. They referred to "President Ronald Reagan" then burst into sniggers at the absurdity of Ronald Reagon ever becoming President. I laughed too (at the Laugh In cast, not with them).

I remember a time, in the not so distance past that Orrin Hatch was considered a prime candidate to sit on the Supreme Court...

Can a non-native born American born to American parents be President? Born to American parents abroad is fine. I believe that one Presidnet (Hoover?) was born in China to parents serving as missionaries.

So, is Orrin Hatch looking to make the illegal aliens eligible to run our country into the ground in twenty years?
Is he close to Vicente Fox?
To: goldstategop
It would also mean that someone like Mikhail Gorbachov could run if he were so inclined. No thanks, Orrin. Whatever possessed Hatch to come up with such a harebrained idea?

And Schwarzenegger did a take on Stallone in "The Last Action Hero" when Stallone was depicted on the cover of a "Terminator 2" movie.
I think there was some bad blood between the two so they squashed it. I always thought that Stallone should have been the evil Terminator in "T2," however.

Title 8 of the U.S. Code, Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth:"
1. Anyone born inside the United States
2. Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person's status as a citizen of the tribe
3. Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
4. Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
5. Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
6. Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
7. Any one born outside the United States, if one is an alien and as long as one is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
8. A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.
Anyone falling into these categories is considered natural-born, and is eligible to run for President or Vice President. These provisions allow the children of military families to be considered natural-born.
