Community needs more banana-like ideas and ideals

I got the hot news tip around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Actually, it was a cold tip. Freezing, in fact.

A bunch of Vacation Bible Schoolers at Lighthouse Baptist Church would eat Grant County's longest banana split that very evening. The caller, Pastor Ron Hon, thought the newspaper might be interested in taking a photograph.

Because here's the thing about 285 kids eating a 202-foot banana split on a Thursday evening in July: Those kids aren't out on the streets, getting into trouble.

It's worse. They are inside gorging themselves and contributing to the obesity epidemic. Call the fat police!

If one kid ate the whole thing, I might agree with you.
But split among 285 kids, it's only 8½" each.
I'm trying to figure out how they got that many kids sitting that close together. It sure doesn't leave much for elbow room.

True. Just the same, if the kids were on the street, say, getting chased by cops, they the kids (and the cops) would be getting much needed exercise. :-)
