The mysteries of the case continue to haunt Ted Kennedy as well as the authorities who investigated them. Charges of ineptitude and lack of diligence abounded, as did insinuations that the machinery of justice crumbled beneath the power and prestige of the Kennedy family. George Killen, former State Police Detective-Lieutenant, and chief of a never-revealed investigation, lamented that the failure to bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion was "the biggest mistake" of a long and distinguished police career. Senator Kennedy, he said, "killed that girl the same as if he put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger."

Actually, he isn't really a Kennedy, just related to Ethel Kennedy. Had he been a real one, I doubt he would ever have answered for his crime.

I checked out ytedk.com. I thought I knew the whole story but that site has many more details than previous accounts I've read, not that I ever thoroughly researched the incident. I must have spent 1 1/2 hours reading. Usually when I check out a link from FR its 30 seconds or less and I'm back.

I met her and I met the girl friend of the one that OD' in Fla, they were sisters, I worked for their uncle at the time. Two very lovely young women destroyed by the Kennedy's.

The thing that sucks is that Pina was a Republican. Pina disappeared when the Foreman of the Grand Jury tried to contact him. The Idiot Foreman didn't realize he could have called the Grand Jury on his own authority and demanded the State Police get Pina, and then demanded that Pina investigate.

A Grand Jury can investigate any damned thing they please during their term and there isn't a (Real Bad Swear Word) a (Real Bad Swear Word) Judge can do but comply with an order to produce a witness.

No one was going to indict Ted Kennedy. There is an excellent book on the subject. I think it's called Senatorial Privilege.

Howie Carr, Boston's great talk show host and columnist, plans to do his show live from the Chappy bridge next year to celebrate the 35th anniversary. I'm putting in for the day off now!!!

Wow... I MUST hear that show! Actually, he should do his show there every year on this date, as a yearly reminder.

"Dodd and Kennedy were also reported to have made a 'human sandwich' with a waitress at La Brasserie, another Capitol Hill restaurant. The report had it that Kennedy threw the woman on Dodd, who was slumped in a chair, and then jumped on top of her. She was said to have run screaming from the room."

The victim herself detailed the attack for Penthouse magazine in 1989, which was summarized by the Washington Times:

"When she put in an appearance in their private retreat - 'The Teddy Kennedy Fun Room' - the Massachusetts senator picked her up and heaved her onto a table. The crystal candlesticks and champagne glasses shattered as he grabbed her again and flung her on top of Dodd.

"Then Kennedy threw himself on top of the woman. The waitress implored Mr. Kennedy to 'Get off me!'

"Another waitress entered to find 'things all tipped over and Kennedy was on top, [the waitress] was in the middle and Dodd was on the bottom.' At that point the sandwich was disassembled."
