July 19, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - A CIA-backed analysis last fall found "compelling evidence" that Saddam Hussein was trying to rebuild a uranium program to make nuclear weapons, according to documents released yesterday by the White House.
The intelligence information was made public as President Bush's team stepped up its effort to refute charges the White House used dubious claims to justify the Iraq war or pressured the CIA to endorse charges that it didn't really believe.
