With divorce rates in heterosexual marriages what they are, this belly-aching about gay marriage seems a little disingenuous to me. Me too. The hysteria about gay marriage is wholly based on the false dichotomy that either marriage is preserved as it is today or the entire institution is rendered meaningless. I don't think that's the case.
If marriage was extended to gays (which I'm not in favor of, BTW) the institution would simply encompass another 3% of the population with little noticeable effect on anyone other than gays themselves.

This is EXACTLY what I'm saying. Religious groups can continue to have their beliefs about homosexuality and what else has changed? Not much. I wish that the same churches that are upset about this showed as much concern for the adultery within their midst. What's that saying about the splinter and the log?

Its about the next generation. If homosexual marriage is FORCED upon society, then the public schools will have to teach homosexual marraige as normal to children. Developing children will be taught to mary the same sex. School book will be mandated to show homosexual unions on par with mother and father. (with fathers always shown as bad)
Its about recruiting.
