Granted, the "culture" there is pathetic and under-developed. But Africa is three times the land mass of the United States. Of course there are going to be calamities.

There are some successes. Botswana, for example. A non-corrupt capitalist nation in the south.

As far as the story is concerned, this is just one of an untold many. The entire continent is heading down a long and terrifying abyss from which, at this point, only an act of God would be able to rescue it from its horrible fate. Truly one of the great tragedies in human history, if not the greatest.

I've got used to needing to follow the story of these "back-water" conflicts
for weeks and months before any influence of Islam finally slips into the press stories.

One of the problems with Africa is that, outside of certain areas, Christianity "escaped" from the Church and was taken over by self-appointed syncretist charismatic preachers, who have essentially created their own religions by combining the shreds of many half-digested faiths.

If you read Acts, you can see that this was a problem in the early days of Christianity, too, and it was only the growing structure of the church that prevented people from going off and setting up their own personal and often hugely distorted versions of the Christian message.

Africa is at that point now. This is, however, enormously complicated by the presence of Islam, which is itself a personal charismatic/syncretist "revelation" that took over Jewish and Christian scriptures and interpreted them in a way that perverted them and made them hostile to Judaism and Christianity.

What we need in Africa is more orthodox Christianity and fewer crazy, violent, well-armed "prophets."

As far as slaughter on a grand scale the Africans have nothing on the Europeans. 85 million slaughtered or starved in Russia alone in the 20th cebtury. Isn't progress a wonderful thing?

Oh, I got nothing against Africans specifically. Europeans aren't my favorites, either. I just hate the folks stomping around here saying that Europeans are the root of all African problems, when African civil and tribal wars have been killin' folks there a long time.
