A day after announcing an investigation into the use of proprietary Lockheed Martin documents in an important Air Force rocket program, Boeing is reportedly involved in a lawsuit with a former employee who alleges that a similar incident took place with another space-related program.
The Washington Post reported that a former worker sued Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company, for wrongful termination stemming from the discovery of another worker's possession of proprietary Lockheed Martin information related to a satellite contract. See the Washington Post story.
Boeing spokesman Dan Beck said the company couldn't comment on the case. But he did say that Boeing would not fire an employee for reporting an ethics breach.
Shares of Boeing, a Dow Jones Industrials component, fell 17 cents to $33 in recent trading.
For investors looking ahead to the Chicago-based company's quarterly report, due out July 23, there has been no shortage of news.
On Tuesday, Boeing announced its commercial space launch business has deteriorated so much that it won't run any such launches for the next five years. Accordingly, the company will take a more than $1 billion charge as the rocket operations retool to concentrate on government and defense-related work. See full story.
Driving home the importance of its space and military operations, Boeing said Thursday it would cut up to another 5,000 jobs in its commercial aircraft division because that market isn't improving. See full story.
And late Thursday, the company announced that former Republican New Hampshire senator Warren Rudman will head an investigation into an earlier incident that prompted a lawsuit by Lockheed Martin. A report will be made available to the public and should be completed within two to three months.
The government is also investigating the matter.
