Rush had a piece about that on his TV show. Rush sent him a genuine Rush Limbaugh tie. Gibbons rejected it. A friend of mine got the tie and framed it (heh-heh)

I have met Sam Gibbons and found him to be rather...well...uh...uninspiring. Gibbons had the run of the roost for soooo long. He thought he was going to be Chairman of the W&M committee, but 1994 knocked him back to minority satus. The Libs ruled Congress with an iron fist. And Rep. Archer, along with Gingrich, decided to level the playing field. Gibbons simply could not take the utter humiliation of not being king of the hill as well as having to play fair.

What an interesting time that must have been. I have read the book Hill Rat, and it seemed that the Chairman regarded the committees as their own fiefdom even more so than now.
