Mfume, however, has never been to law school.

Contrary to what many people think, there is no requirement that a U.S. Supreme court justice have any legal training or even to have been a practicing lawyer. In addition, the U.S. Supreme Court has never been called upon to decide whether the practice of law is merely a privilege or a basic constitutional right.

When the Constitution was signed, it was illegal in over half the states to 'practice law for compensation'. Our founding fathers had a very low opinion of lawyers, possibly even a lower opinion than people today.

There is just constitutionally authorized position that requires some degree of legal expertise. Can anyone name that position?

Yeah, but it's been a long time since a non-lawyer was nominated. Was Abe Fortas a lawyer? Who was the last SC justice who wasn't a lawyer anyway?

"Our founding fathers had a very low opinion of lawyers, possibly even a lower opinion than people today."

John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Edmund Randolph were lawyers. 34 of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention were lawyers.

In other words, your statement is a crock.

It would be very healthy to start appointing non-lawyers. Rush Limbaugh, Jim Robinson, Ron Paul, Jerry Falwell, Cal Thomas, Tony Snow would be a considerable improvement on 6/9 justices.

I would be satisfied with a monkey trained to toss a coin. At least there would be a 50% chance of a correct ruling.

Fed-Soc.org - The Federalist Society Law schools and the legal profession are currently strongly dominated by a form of orthodox liberal ideology which advocates a centralized and uniform society. While some members of the academic community have dissented from these views, by and large they are taught simultaneously with (and indeed as if they were) the law.

LAWRENCE et al. v. TEXAS - Scalia Today's opinion is the product of a Court, which is the product of a law-profession culture, that has largely signed on to the so-called homosexual agenda,

Jim Robinson: Abortion, Sodomy, Courts, Feminists, RKBA, DNC -07/09/2003 But my most immediate goal is to have a complete turnover in the judiciary or to dump as many liberals from the court as we possibly can and also to keep the legislative agenda out of Democrat hands.
