Microsoft Corp. acknowledged a critical vulnerability Wednesday in nearly all versions of its flagship Windows operating system software, the first such design flaw to affect its latest Windows Server 2003 software.

Microsoft said the vulnerability could allow hackers to seize control of a victim's Windows computer over the Internet, stealing data, deleting files or eavesdropping on e-mails. The company urged customers to immediately apply a free software repairing patch available from Microsoft's Web site.

Nice to know that the Dept. of Homeland Security is going to be dependent on this stuff: Microsoft Wins Homeland Security Contract:

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Department of Homeland Security said on Tuesday it has awarded a five-year, $90 million enterprise (news - web sites) agreement to Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) to become the department's primary technology provider. ..."

All Freepers using Windows should seriously question their choice. Windows is utter crap. Its full of security holes and is an open invitation for hackers and virus writers to wreak havoc with your computer.

Linux on the desktop has made great strides. SuSE Linux 8.2 is a particularly nice distro. An even better choice is a Macintosh running OS X. There is no more user-friendly or visually attractive UNIX. Avoid anything from Microsoft. "Trustworthy Computing." Must be Gates' idea of a joke.
