god doesn't care what we are wearing, but when we go into a holy place half naked we are in effect mocking God...I believe there is a parable by Jesus about a wedding shirt that makes the same point...

Reminds me of an old joke.
A topless dancer enters church "dressed" for work. The priest stops her at the entrance:
"My dear, you can't come into church like that."
