I read that first sentence and went back to check for
The Onion as the source too.
I don't like Metallica's noise, I mean, "music". So, normally I wouldn't care, but these guys abuse the legal system worse than Cochran and Spike Lee.

Metallica copied their new stuff(since 92) by all the grunge bands out there.
Maybe they need to be sued.

Sheesh. First they go after kids using Napster. Now they're going after a small Canadian indie band for their use of two chords...

The Metalica I used to like didn't have the money or time to sue anyone.

Metallica are taking legal action against independant Canadian rock band Unfaith over what they feel is unsanctioned usage of two chords the band has been using since 1982 : E and F.Michael Jackson's got these two notes he uses all the time: E-flat and C. I think he's trying to copy you. Go after him. He's got a helluva lot more money than Unfaith.

Hehehe, it
is a quite impressive joke. I missed it the first time around, too. D'oh.
Sorry for not catching the spoof earlier, everyone! This wasn't as obvious a parody as The Onion usually is, though they did a pretty good job at making it convincing. A part of me definitely wanted to believe that something this rediculous were true - particularly when it involves my Least Favorite Band... ;)
Thanks for pointing my error out, ThinkDifferent. I've been haaaad. Sorry for spreading the fun without checking the facts first...

Jeeez - I thought this was a joke... Trust your instincts. :-)

"It's nothing personal against them," he added. "We intend to enforce our rights with any band intending to use Metallica-branded chords in the future." All Metallica has to do know is "brand" the remaining nine major chords and no one will ever be able to play a major chord (in a recording session) again without risking legal action.

is it a joke -- it looks legit on the website and the lawyer they quote for Metallica is a real lawyer in Los Angeles

No need to apologize; it's a good one. Had me going for a minute or so.

Well, I'm suing to stop these clowns from calling it "middle" C. I mean, you're a perfectly good note with decent self-esteem and all of a sudden people start calling you "middle" C like you're average or something. Dang it, middle C is just as good a note as any one on the keyboard.
