...an increasingly worried China intervened, revealing a push for talks and sending a special envoy to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

I don't trust the ChiComms at all. I do not believe NK blows its nose without the PRC knowing about it and being a part of it.

There are wheels within wheels going on here...China has us watching one hand while another veiled hand potentially does something entirely different IMHO...particularly when the Clinton era man jumps into the middle of it and warns us about the very outcome of their own actions.

Very dangerous times...similar in potential strategy (outside of the specific type of threat) to what I describe in my novel series, (ie NK drawing us in while China pretends to mediate, until the SHTF, then they pile on too).

Why we didn't go to war with the USSR for using Mig-15 pilots (Soviet pilots) and declare war on China for getting involved I'll never know.

Bonehead mistake on Truman's part. Kennedy wouldn't have put up with that, nor Reagan or Bush.

So now we face the elimination of Seoul, Tokyo, and possibly US cities over this blunder. If China gets involved again, we'd be fools not to declare war on them and use tactical nuclear weapons on their incoming soldiers. This may lead to a pretty decent sized nuclear war, but the alternative is far worse.

I always thought we should have taken out the North Korean Nuclear processing plant with a few stealth bombers at the height of the Irag war. Then deny, deny, deny.

Everyone was down on Israel when they did the same to Irag in the eighties, but history proved it to be a bold and correct move.

While it's true that the Chicoms have every interest to keep NK afloat it's not very likely that they're playing a devious game with us. I'm sure their hardliners would like the standoff to continue to our embarassment, but even they can't control the manner in which NK plays its cards.

Ever since the PRC normalized relations with the ROK, their alliance with DPRK has pretty much become an alliance by default - in the sense that the two will never be enemies. As I've mentioned, Kim's able to do things that even the Chinese don't approve of, since he correctly assumes that under no circumstances will Beijing seriously punish his actions.

Personally it's looking to me like the commies learned some lessons from Reagan that our elected oficials are far to blind to see.
We have let the chinese wrap their hands so tight around our economy they pretty much have free reign around the world. A decade or two of these proxy wars they are throwing at us and we will just be another third rate bankrupt country.
At least the socialists will naturally be the first to get killed off. Then we can start over again.

Precisely.
