[history]
61-year-old Savin Hill man was dragged to his death Sunday night as he pleaded with the driver of the vehicle that struck him to stop. ''Oh, my God, please stop,'' a witness heard Richard A. Miller shout as he clung to the passenger side of the red pickup truck or SUV that dragged him for several hundred feet down Dorchester Avenue.

Almost guaranteed it was a drunk driver - a pathetic coward who should receive the same treatment immediately upon conviction.

What a sad story. I hope they catch the a-hole that did this.

Was he picking or boycotting at the time he was hit?
Or is it simply what he's known for in the community?
To: dead
The Herald reported that he had just ordered a beer and stepped out for a cigarette.
Boston recently banned smoking in bars (May 1).
It is fair to say that he would not have left the building to have a cigarette if there was no ban.
The smoking ban killed him.

It seems he was just known for his activism, not that he was doing it at the time.
The story's very unclear. It says the car hit him at fifty miles an hour. But it also says he was hanging onto the passenger side door for several hundred feet while pleading for the driver to stop. Then he fell off and got run over.
I don't really see somebody hanging onto a door talking to the driver after getting hit at 50 mph.

Savin Hill area of Dorchester. Lived there about 20 years ago...rough neighborhood then and still the same. I believe that's where "Marky Mark" grew up at the same time I was there. There were a lot of "white gangsta rappers" in the area. Never did figure that phenomenon out.

''I was assuming that he went outside for a cigarette,'' said the bartender, who asked not to be identified. Proof positive that "Smoking Kills."

"as he clung to the passenger side of the red pickup truck or SUV"
Liberal bias alert.
They just had to add, after "red pickup truck" the phrase "or SUV". It's nice how the media sneaks "SUV" into almost any story involving an accident.

This very sad story seems to support the Smoke Nazi Chant. "Smokers are arrogant selfserving A-holes". Sarcasm off now. God Bless this man.

You're blaming this on cigarettes? Good grief. Maybe you should blame it on the Pro-Lifers. You know, if his mom had had an abortion, none of this would have happened.

Maybe my reply was abrupt. But is this really the fault of smoking laws?
