We were told to evacuate here in Crystal Beach too and I was outvoted. There has been cars driving up and down the roads near me tonight. I don't know what they are checking out. Maybe we should have a curfew here like Surfside has.

It's been pretty calm here too - as they say "Calm before the storm" - San Antonio looks ok for now though. :o) It was very calm in Corpus Christi too. It was really hot with few clouds and little wind. I hope this hurricane isn't anything like hurricane Celia in 1970.

Tropical Storm Claudette dropped the record amount of rainfall ever recorded in a 24 hour period in the USA. 43 inches in Alvin, just south of Houston.
Different storm back in the late 1970's.

I hope we're safe. I'm going to help my father board up his house if it looks like the storm is going to hit close by. This storm doesn't look to be very well formed, and winds are expected to only be in the low category 1 range by the time it hits land.
We had a hurricane in 1970 (Celia) that contracted as it hit land. Instead of 90 mph winds that were predicted we had 180 mph winds. Well at least that's as high as they were measured before anemometer blew apart. Some estimates for maximum winds during Celia were in excess of 200 mph.
