Lott is/was a professor of economics with a specialty in statistics; he does his own research.

He was shown the anti-gun literature and it was so poorly done [statistically] he set out to fix it for them. There was one problem, all the data came in the reverse and he switched sides. Since then, he has been one of the greatest pro-2nd amendment advocates the movement has seen.
