You're right.
Even if the rule says different, "an" is proper. There is an exception to every rule.
Vowels a e i o u and sometimes w and s...(new rule)
BTW, my SUV is a (an?) Hybred and gets 200 MPG, and switches over to two AA batteries at 50 MPH.
