Ah, they did that in India too, and they made the tax so high that many of the poorer people became Muslims since they couldn't afford to pay the tax. Also the Muslims would defile people by rape, forced meat eating, and other means to cause the Hindus to feel that they were outcastes. Of course, too rigid brahminical codes compounded that offense by the Muslim invaders; or one could say the invaders took advantage of the code to force people into their religion.
