"Speaking of the NSC..." I just did. Maybe your bog or blg or whatever could get congress to reform and return the NSC to what it was inteded to be after WWII.

"I've read something in this regard, to the effect that it was actually Cheney who ordered the CIA to investigate, and then the CIA sent Wilson. Is that what you're referring to?"
It seems to be Wilson that makes that claim ...
Personally, I have a lot of reservations about Wilson and his claims
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/06/opinion/06WILS.html?ex=1058604680&ei=1&en=67772fcb2cabc18b In February 2002, I was informed by officials at the Central Intelligence Agency that Vice President Dick Cheney's office had questions about a particular intelligence report. While I never saw the report, I was told that it referred to a memorandum of agreement that documented the sale of uranium yellowcake a form of lightly processed ore by Niger to Iraq in the late 1990's. The agency officials asked if I would travel to Niger to check out the story so they could provide a response to the vice president's office.

I don't know anything about Cathryn as a writer or as a person, but as it sounds like she's a budding journalist, I would like to recommend she use less inflammatory and judgmental language in the future. The title of this thread says it all.
Not everyone feels this is a fiasco and just by asking the question that way, one's bias is evident for all to see.

I want to say I think Cathryn Crawford is a good and thoughtful person, a good writer, and that she has a bright future ahead - I just take issue with some of her opinions, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't mind that.Yeah, it's time to call off the hounds. I thought only dems were the ones that tried character assassinations.

"I was wondering when a neo-cons conspiracy theorist would show up on this thread"
What conspiracy theory?? Everything was pretty much out in the open. I suggest that you do a google search for "office of special plans" and "project for a new american century". Don't take my word for it...it comes pretty much straight from the horse's mouth and is out in the open.
They conceived an idea, mapped the plan, and carried it through.
Too bad about those middle america boys who are paying the ultimate price in the sands of Iraq...but that is the wages of Empire.

You focused on the same part of the speech that I did. What I want to know is--NSC is Condi Rice, correct? So how does she weigh in? Something doesn't make any sense.

That post was taken from the Washington Dispatch site and I posted the link. Full disclosure you know! Any first year journalism student with "Ethics in journalism" knows all about disclosure!
You would do yourself a favor not to treat us like we cannot read. If she supported the war fine -- that posting was an attack on SecDef Rumsfeld who I respect a lot more than ANY journalist!

Oh, so she's not a journalist? It was my understanding Catheryn is a journalist. If she's not, then there's no need to disclose that she's written a few editorials.

The new target must be Cathryn since TLBSHOW is gone. Oh please .. she put up the thread and asked for the discussion.

There was no lie or even inaccurate information (check the wording of the sentence if you doubt me) in the SOTU address, but people have that impression now, thanks to the media. Not many people in this country are going to believe that this President lied in his State of the Union address. Most people in this country have grown to trust George W. Bush.
And the problem involves more than just whether or not the particular sentence in the SOTU is technically accurate or inaccurate. The problem exists because the White House now believes that the SOTU would have been better and more accurate if the sentence had not been included. I believe it's fair to say that the White House now feels that the inclusion of that sentence was, in retrospect, a mistake.
I think that that's all there is to this story.

Well I'm not Ms. Crawford, but I and many other people find it disingenous.

JiM, You do realize that allegations of WMD in iRAQ PREDATE THE BUSH PRESIDENCY. To pretend that these allegations were only made by Bush is to engage in the most dishonest debate ever. I really feel vulnerable when I know the people on my side are so damn taken in by a couiple of partisan news stories. No wonder why no Democrats ever have to resign, because their partisans don't give an inch, even when the charges are correct. Republican partisans are so quick to sell their fella out, even when the charges are trumped up.
No wonder why we were in the minority for so long. We deserve to have Hillary in the WHite House. I'm just going to go somewhere and sing a song of mourning because our Republic is no longer great, we don't have people that stand up for what's right and true anymore. It's a sad day.

Senator Warner said this morning in his interview with Snow that VP Cheney or anyone else in this White House had nothing to do with any of that!
Also noted was the fact that Wilson NEVER provided a report. CIA sends you to check on something, they demand a report!

Are we not allowed to discuss and ask questions?Relevant to the discussion, sure. But when Inspector PhiKapMom thinks she's discovered some big secret that's posted on a profile page and the diverts attention away from the topic at hand, it kind of makes you wonder who it is on the thread that has an agenda.

What would you consider an appropriate way to frame the questions? Or should I simply not ask them at all?Well, I can't really give you an appropriate way to frame the questions, because I don't think there is a legitimate question regarding the President's competence. I think he's an intelligent man who takes his job very seriously and pays close attention to the details of it.
I said in my post that I believe you're welcome to ask them. It's just the same old, same old, to me. "Bush is a chimp. Bush is an idiot. Bush has ADD. Gee whiz, isn't this a serious problem? Don't you realize the gravity of this situation?"
If this is the way you want to sound, you can surely do that, and you will fit right in with the bulk of the press corps.
And you know what, Cathryn? If those are really sincere questions in your mind, you should ask them. I mean that. I'm just surprised to hear that implication come from someone like you.
