What was the immigration status of all the individuals and their families?

Sympathy to victim's family. But I'd also like to know. The victim had helped bring many family members to the US... Legally?

Too bad Mexico can't take care of its own. So much for being a good neighbor.

"For more than a decade, Jose Luis Ramirez worked odd jobs"....

So much for good journalism. With all due respect to the human tragedy of this story, the facts are buried in the "prose". It's the "New Journalism", where the beginning of the story is like the opening line of a poor novel. The concept of: Where, When, What, Who and Why are now passe, as the new style is designed to attract the female reader with a "human interest" touch.

Before I read any newspaper article now days, I look for a female name in the byline. If a distaff reporter wrote the piece or contributed, I pass on it as news written as fiction. It may not be the female reporters fault, but the fault of the editor. Either way, the new style wastes the readers time.

I don't blame the illegals (if that was his status). If I had to live in Mexico, I'd do everything I could to come to El Norte. Send me back, I'd sneak in again.

By the same token, I despised them when I was growing up in Kalifornia.

Why not? Millions of Irish, Germans, Chinese, Poles et al have done the exact same thing.

That is exactly thr problem.

The most valuable thing in this World, is US Citizenship.
The second most valuable thing in this World is US Residency.

We are allowing it to be stolen.

Put the Army on the border, and shoot to kill.
If necessary, declare border States under foreign invasion, put troops in charge, search door to door and toss out all illegals.

My own family came here illegally. They were stowaways on a ship from France, docked in Canada and scurried away to Kansas, albeit some 100+ years ago. I don't blame the Mexicans for looking for a better life.

And that is what my point is, as well. If it is legal , fine, but the article is tugging at the heart strings over what was a tragic event. Hwever, cynicism is in order, imo.

Journalists can and should do a better job, especially, as what will now probably happen is the victim's family will be eligible for victim of a violent crime compensation at the taxpayer's expense, as I suspect.

If the accused are illegals and the victim is one also, shouldn't the case be tried south of the border as well, perhaps?

My own family came here illegally.

My family actually immigrated illegally from the United States to Mexico (Texas) in 1823.
I don't blame them either, I would do the same.
I am just saying that we must stop it by any means necessary, because it is going to destroy us if we don't call a halt and assimilate everyone here now.

Put the Army on the border, and shoot to kill.

That will never happen--get over it.

It would, however, be more practical for the United States to "persuade" the Mexican government to stop its people from entering the U.S. illegally.

After all, if your neighbor's kids climb the fence into your yard, is it your job to spank them?

And if I were in a lifeboat, I wouldn't blame people in the water for trying to climb aboard.

But that wouldn't stop me from beating them back with oars to keep the boat from swamping.

Under such circumstances, when the boat is in danger of overloading, should anyone already in the boat feel alturistic, then they can exchange places with someone in the water.

My own family came here illegally....albeit some 100+ years ago . . . . The crucial difference is that . . .

The crucial difference is that we still had room enough.

The third most valuable thing in the World is criticizing the USA. This is even better when you are here illegally and can use the Liberal Agenda to make yourself heard.

Get real. We have enough room. You could stick everyone in the US in Texas and have the rest left over.

...two 22-year-old boyhood friends from Modesto were behind bars facing possible capital murder charges.

Modesto again. What is going on in that (formerly) quiet little San Joaquin Valley town these days?

Yosemite murders
Chandra Levy
Gary Condit
Laci Peterson

???

I'll go you one better:

If we pack 'em in like at Alcatraz, you could fit the whole world with room to spare,

Which goes to show why crime is such a problem--we've mistakenly been equating crowding with punishment.

How silly to think that concentrating people makes a concentration camp.

Now, since everyone living in Texas would be so nice, when do we all get to move there?

I do exactly the same. Female reporters are always sent to write the sob sister (human interest) stories on immigration. Also, I can run through an article and the numbers cites and logic are off, I check the author and many times it's female

The USA was huge and needed people to settle it. Not quite the case now.

When I think about how much fun they're having in California with only 30 millon people, think about how much more fun Texas will be with 300 million!

Of course, all those people living so close together are going to need a lot of government to make & enforce laws that keep people from bothering each other by playing their radios too loud or blowing smoke in each other's faces, and also to build and maintain a lot of public-works infrastructure.

So everyone will start to appreciate all the good things government can do for people.

Just like all those democrats in California.
