Ooo, wait, I have a better idea... waiters should stop assuming they are entitled to a 15-20% tip and remember that patrons aren't legally required to leave them a bloody dime! How's that?!Oooo I have an even better idea. How about restaurants paying their waiters and waitresses at least minimum wage instead of assuming that people will tip 15% and count that as part of their earnings? Of course, the food will be more expensive to those who don't tip, and cheaper for those who tip heavily. But that's one way to get rid of people who don't understand that tips are part of wages.

Nearly 200 posts, and no-one has said a word about calling over the manager and telling him/her when the service was exceptionally good. Sighting specific things the server did.
Amazing to watch the emotions play over the server's face.
Not a tip substitute, I have tipped anywhere from 1¢ to 100%. At either end there was a note expressing the reasons for my tip.

My, my, you ladies certainly got your panties in a bunch. And yet, I spoke the truth. The tip is contingent upon the service. Lousy service? Lousy tip. Don't like it? Get anuddah job!

I used to wonder why my farmer father was required by law to pay illegal aliens minimum wage, while my children who were waiting tables to get through college were making $2.25/hr. Then I saw the generous political contributions that the National Restaurant Association gives at campaign time and it became crystal clear. I think everyone ought to be required to play by the same rules.
