Like many of the younger sailors aboard the carrier Ronald Reagan, Lt. (j.g). Renee Jones didnt remember much about the namesake of the Navys newest aircraft carrier.
Jones was just 3 when Reagan became the nations 40th president, in 1981.
Well that certainly made MY day. I've got underwear older than that!

Seriously though, what a great honor. I hope it becomes the best boat in the fleet.

I'm old, old, old ... although maybe not as old as some others ... my first political campaign was the second Reagan presidency. Talk about an easy start ...
Those are beautiful ships. I've been on the "George Washington." Congratulations to all of us - our tax dollars built those babies!

This is quite pleasing to see.
A fitting memorial to a son of Illinois and the Midwest.

LOL......I'm a little older than the Lieutenant in the article, but I too was only 5 when President Reagan took office...but there is nothing vague about my memories of him. In fact over the next eight years I actually developed a political consciousness strongly influenced by the great man, and will never forget his speech after the Challenger disaster.

I was stationed in Alaska in 1980 when Reagan ran for the first time. Although I have always voted Republican, and voted for Reagan, I really had hoped the party would choose someone else and not a movie star. I just didn't feel confident about Reagan's ability to be President. I, actually, wished for Carter to win. Boy, am I glad I was dead wrong back in 1980!

...my first political campaign was the second Reagan presidency... Now I feel old. My first political involvement was the Goldwater campaign.
My kids tease me over having been born in the first half of the last century.

I voted for Reagan but did not have great hopes for him, but he proved me wrong. He really was a wonderful president.

I found this site a while back perhaps even suggested here on FR. It is really neat especially the construction photos.

Sorry about that. You must feel like my father did, when my daughter asked him if he rode a horse in the Civil War!

Hello, my name is Tom, and I'm OLD! LOL. Iknow the feeling. I served under President Reagan. At a party recently, I realized I was the only person in attendance who was old enough to have voted for him!

Renee Jones, please read about one of our great Presidents. Ronald Reagan loves America as the greatest country the world has ever seen. Honor him and be proud to serve on his namesake ship. He also loves the American people. Unfortunately, President Reagan is too ill to realize what's going on, so I beg you to do this great President the honor of being the best you can be.

Sorry about that. You must feel like my father did, when my daughter asked him if he rode a horse in the Civil War! No problem. :=) That sure beats being asked: Daddy, were the dinosaurs really all that big?

I was on Active Duty while Dutch was my Commander-in-Chief.
Those were mighty days for America, and it was a thing of pride to wear the uniform of my nation.
I truly hope that GWB can pull off the same miracle.

I truly hope that GWB can pull off the same miracle.
From my perspective I believe he is on track.

I voted for Reagan In 1980 I planned to vote for Reagan, but was in line in California when Jimmy C conceded. I decided to cast my vote for Anderson so that the poor shmuck would get his matching funds. In '84 I voted for RR and am eternally grateful for the opportunity and the memory.
