July 10, 2003 -- Kobe Bryant's alleged sex-assault victim is an aspiring chanteuse who drove a thousand miles for a shot at stardom on Fox's blockbuster "American Idol," a friend told The Post yesterday.

Despite being cut from the hit reality show, the alleged victim's a talented pianist and songwriter who hopes to become a music teacher when she graduates college, friends said.

Those words were not spoken by the possible (police have physical evidence) victim. They were spoken by her neighbor. Let's wait on this. Your assessment sounds like one made by someone who may not believe rape is even possible.....especially if the rapist is rich and famous. A few Kennedys, and men by the names of Luster and Clinton come to mind. I'm sorry but I'm sickened by your comments.

Nope. Rape is very possible. It happens all the time and is a horrible crime, which should be punished very, very severely.

We'll see what happened here, I suppose. I just don't see Bryant risking his career by sexually assaulting some room service employee. No doubt, like other sports celebrities, he has plenty of willing groupies following him around. There's just no percentage for him in sexually assaulting this young woman, so the likelihood seems very small to me.

Like everyone, I'm just guessing. I suppose we'll find out who guessed better.

If he lawyered up right away he would not have gone to the hospital with the police at all. The Vail story says he went to the hospital the same night with the police. If he were guilty chances are slim he would do this.

Also, he had had just had knee surgery and would have been in alot of pain, I doubt he would have been able to force anything on anyone at that point in time.

Yup. He has a very clean reputation in that regard. Such an assault would be way, way out of character for him, which is why I doubt it happened. Why would he risk his career to sexually assault a hotel employee? No doubt he could have found a willing groupie if he wanted some action. But he doesn't do that, by all reports.

My prediction is that the DA in CO will not prosecute and the story will not come out fully. So, we'll all be speculating until the cows come home.

Anyway, one of the interesting things about this story is that the sheriff of a different county got an arrest warrant, not the district Attorney where the event happened. The sheriff had "concerns for the family" or something like that. I guessed a day or two ago the woman is related to LE or is from a prominent local family - and they wanted action. (Has nothing to do whether Kobe is guilty or not, IMO.)

The flag in this story, to me, involves the call for room service. If room service wasn't available, why did a hotel employee decide to go to the room anyway?

How about this. A nineteen year old talented girl working in the summer to help pay her expenses and her college who did the guy a favor and wanted to meet him and the SOB assaults her. It amazes me that the take on this is so very different. Why would anyone assume a girl working at a job in the summer would automatically be a slut trying to frame a guy. There is not enough info here to make that judgement in my opinion.

Or, how about this; and I know it's possible, because it happened to a friend of mine:

Girl goes to the room. Talks to Kobe, and decides to give him a "Monica" for his troubles. Remember, he just had knee surgery, and could not be too mobile. Now, suppose the girl happened to be skilled in the act; motivating Kobe to pursue other avenues where she was unwilling to go. Now Kobe, after having already shared his DNA with her, assumes that he now has carte-blanche with the girl, and pushes her beyond her limit?

Either way, Kobe is screwed, because if there is DNA, he will either have to claim it was concentual, and lose his wife to decades of Alimony. He cant say there was no sex, if he left his tadpoles on her clothing.

Our family checked into a Holiday Inn Express in Georgia late at night last summer. The night clerk actually baked us chocolate chip cookies because we couldn't find anything to eat. Of course, it was a Holiday Inn Express.

So here's the purported victim's friend, and even she admits that her first reaction was that it was a fabrication?? I'd love to find out what it was about her friend that made her assume that. Of course, that changed when she found out that the accused was a wealthy black basketball player.

That just strikes me as strange. "I assumed she was lying, until I found out it was Kobe Bryant."

Does anybody else have an explanation for that?

I'm not saying he is guilty here. But there are many people who risk everything...family, career etc. by doing something really stupid. It happens all the time. The question can be asked with each incident..why would you risk it?
