July 10, 2003 -- Kobe Bryant's alleged sex-assault victim is an aspiring chanteuse who drove a thousand miles for a shot at stardom on Fox's blockbuster "American Idol," a friend told The Post yesterday.

Despite being cut from the hit reality show, the alleged victim's a talented pianist and songwriter who hopes to become a music teacher when she graduates college, friends said.

COLORADO - The woman who slapped National Basketball Association star Kobe Bryant with a sexual assault rap was revealed to be only 19 on Monday, and was described by those who knew her as a pretty, blonde college student with little incentive to lie.

The teenager worked as a concierge at the Lodge and Spa, a resort where the married basketball star, who was in Colorado for knee surgery, was staying on June 30.

Bryant, 24, was later arrested on a warrant for suspicion of sexual assault as well as for unlawful imprisonment, which was previously undisclosed.

'Basically, he was not letting her leave when she wanted to leave,' said Eagle County Sheriff Joseph Hoy.

The 19-year-old was taken to a hospital and doctors collected a rape kit. The evidence has been sent to the state's Bureau of Investigations for analysis.

But when asked whether the evidence included semen, Hoy refused to comment.

Bryant's accuser was described as popular and outgoing.

'It takes guts for her to take this stand,' said one acquaintance.

'We don't know what happened, but it makes no sense for her to lie about something like this.'

The arrest floored the Los Angeles Lakers, basketball fans and Bryant's relatives, who consider the father of a six-month-old daughter to be a model of clean living.

According to The Daily News website, Hoy told ABC's Good Morning America on Monday that a sexual assault charge would 'always involve penetration or intrusion into the genital area of the victim'.

Experts say the scandal could cost Bryant - who recently signed a 10-year, US$45-million (S$80-million) deal with Nike - millions in endorsements. -- AP

You did not say you had not seen any reports. You said THERE WERE NO REPORTS contrary to what was reported earlier in this thread.
