July 10, 2003 -- Kobe Bryant's alleged sex-assault victim is an aspiring chanteuse who drove a thousand miles for a shot at stardom on Fox's blockbuster "American Idol," a friend told The Post yesterday.
Despite being cut from the hit reality show, the alleged victim's a talented pianist and songwriter who hopes to become a music teacher when she graduates college, friends said.

I think it's not so funny that so many people here reveal an eager willingness to confidently presume the very worst about women.Or about him.

Here's the problem. Your approach of "not slandering" would require me, if accused, to not point out how the charges might be motivated by something other than the truth. Not at all. It merely requires one to keep an OPEN mind as to guilt/innocence and NOT slander either person. Get real.

So, in your mind the first poster WAS slandering the accuser, but the following poster WAS not slandering every NBA player except Saint Robinson by all but calling them gang bangers. Allllrighty then!!!!

But in your sick world, a young girl instead would say to herself, Hmmm, I can go
up there, make believe I was raped and hopefully, if the world believes me without
any physical evidence, I'll be a millionaire. Oy Vay.
I envy you. You've obviously been fortunate to live in a world of purity and virtue.
Unfortunately, some of us have encountered more than a few people whose only virtue is money.
And thanks for automatically thinking the worst of me.
I guess these lines from my post simply weren't explicit enough:
I'm in the "open mind" camp.....
(and my comment regarding even if she engaged in some sort of sexual
activity consensually or not)
.....And even if she did, if she got assaulted, then Kobe is still in trouble.
So let me make it clear and simple for you.
If Kobe did assault the lady under the terms of the law and it can be proved,
off to jail with him.
No matter if the young lady was operating anywhere along the continuum from
virtuous employee to conniving golddigger.

By the way, you are the one that needs to get real. You profess to keep an open mind, yet not a single one of your posts offers anything but defense of the accuser and implications of Kobe's guilt.
How do you know so much about the rape kit? Where did you read that one was taken? In all the reports I've seen there was only mention of "physical evidence". That covers a lot of ground. If a rape kit was used, was it conclusive? Was DNA present but there was no signs of abuse? You seem to have a lot of inside knowledge. Or are you going to site the other posters claims of "vagina tears" when there have been no reports of such to date?
I for one do have an open mind. The possibilities range from absolutely nothing happened and the woman is a kook, to something happened short of sexual assault, to Kobe's a hidden fiend who's been raping women for years and finally got caught. Like another poster wrote, I believe the truth is between the extremes. Unlike you, who I fear has a mind already made up.

Forget it. There's seems to be a contingent here that already has the torches lit and pitch forks out and ready.

Amen to that.
This forum has made even a "law and order" type like me see why we need all the
(seemingly) ridiculous and complex protections for "the accussed".
I say this as someone who fumed while going through endless voir dire [sp?]
during a trial before putting a bad-boy away on his second-strike for having
abused his extended family.
But I guess some folks in this forum would still think I'm prejudiced against
female victims of violence perpetrated by males.
Go Figure.

Everyone of my posts was in response to a slander of the lady. I have NEVER "defended" her except to post the facts in response to slander made by those that have posted they have already made up their mind that they KB is innocent. I have made NO implications; just reported items that the slanderers omit. Get real. I have made NO posts attacking or supporting either KB or the lady unlike several here.

As I have detailed, the slandering of the lady and the declaration of support for an INNOCENT KB started about post #5. My posts were to introduce reported events that were contrary to those posts. Apparently you do not want these reports put on the thread?

Heh, it started first with those that declared KB innocent and started slandering the lady. Now those that are pointing out that the slanderers should not make up their mind without more facts are the "evil ones". Go figure.

Uh, except to defend one necessarily means undermining the other.
Stop playing innocent.
Right now, as I see it, there's a guy who doesn't drink, who even when single didn't go out carrousing with his teammates at strip joints and clubs, who is single-minded in his pursuit of professional betterment, just had a kid, is married to a beautiful girl vs. an unknown who sought fame and fortune in the past.
It frankly makes MORE sense to believe Kobe right now. Just as it would if GW Bush were accused, wouldn't it?
But then Dubya's not a black athlete, nor is he a Democrat.
I guess that answers that.

an unknown who sought fame and fortune in the past. Are you referring to his wife?
"The chat rooms on Black-focused web sites lit up this week when an Associated Press photo of Kobes fiancée, Vanessa Laine, hit the Web. Most comments included a stinging rebuke of Bryant for following in the perceived pattern of successful Black men shunning Black women when it comes time to share their wealth in marriage. Sites such as EURWeb (The Entertainment Urban Report) and BlackPlanet.com continue to buzz with the controversy, with a smaller segment of the chat room population commenting on the respective ages of Bryant and Laine, an aspiring makeup artist and high school senior whom the Laker star met on the set of a music video shoot."

What relevance are jealous black women and their opinions?

Just pointing out that his wife was a unknown teenager seeking fame and fortune. You cannot use these factors to judge either of them.

No one is insinuating that you are racist, cinFLA.
Five people can all agree on a basic premise, but yet have five different motivations. I'm simply saying that when it comes to this kind of case, there are more than one or two people who are willing to believe the worst, despite all evidence in someone's past to the contrary, due to racial or socieoconomic bias(or bias against athletes, whatever.)
You seem to feel that any words against the torch-and-pitchfork crew is a direct attack on your stance. You assume too much.
Cool down a little and see that not all our posts are directed at you, though you are the most active thus far.
