Honest question from a protestant to a catholic: why would one even bother with "intercessors" (i.e. saints & Mary) when we can speak directly to Christ through prayer? Seems awful inefficient to me. I trust you can see why these things make us a bit nervous.

Homeschool_dad: Perhaps the best way to answer your question is to take a well-known example from scripture where the intercession of the Blessed Mother was 'efficient' in getting a favorable response from her Son. That would be the Wedding Feast of Cana when Mary asked her Son for help with the depleted wine. Even though he seemed reluctant to intervene, he turned the water into wine, apparently to satisfy the request of his Mother. Surely, this biblical example gives credance to the Catholic practice of seeking Her intervention on our behalf with her Son.
