I didn't say that at all. If you lived in NYC in the early 1950s and were Jewish, you probably knew of people from City College and perhaps someone who worked at Ft. Monmouth. You certainly knew what was going on and that a Catholic, McCarthy, was calling a number of Jews to testify. The Soviets and Europeans were putting out propaganda that Americans were just like the Nazis and going after Jews. That might explain why, as Ann points out, McCarthy's approval rating was 3% among Jews at the time.

That Rabinowitz cites Phillip Loeb as a victim of a witch hunt makes me suspect she either knew him or knows his family. He wasn't a victim. Anymore than Ed Asner or Jeanne Garofalo are victims of their stupid political positions. Americans didn't want to see Loeb on their TV set and told the sponsors that. McCarthy had nothing to do with him losing his job as Rabinowitz intimates.
