Yet leftists in America (Democrats) revere him today.
We all remember the WTO conference in Seattle back in November 1999 because of the anarchists who rioted in the streets. I remember it because Fidel Castro had been invited to attend. The ultra-liberal Seattle City Council was beside itself with celebrity worship anticipation, even preparing the red carpet for him (literally). President Clinton was already scheduled to attend, and the White House attempted to arrange a photo-op meeting of these two great world leaders if only.. if only... please God let it happen... if only Mr. Castro Sir would honor the WTO, Seattle, America and President Clinton with his august presence.
Alas, he declined the invitation, causing Seattle's leftist media and city council to nearly burst into tears at the empty spot in their agenda.
It is NOT a stretch of the imagination, it is NOT unfounded criticism, it is NOT irresponsible mean-spirited name-calling when Ann Coulter states that the Democrat Party sympathizes with communism over American patriotism. Let's ask Elian, shall we?
