I think I am siding with Mr. Thompson at this point. Someone exploited his ideology, but I don't believe for a second that I caused Mr. Thompson's retraction other than perhaps by getting him to question his source a bit.
It would have been very easy for Mr. Thompson to simply not say anything. The fact that he printed the retraction when he likely could have said nothing tells me he wanted to make things right.
At least, that is what my instincts are saying. Caveat lector.

His job could be on the line,WM, and it wouldn't be unreasonable to do this as a preemptive measure.There are lots of holes in this story that smell like a whopper or the actions of a rube reporter.The best that can be said for this man now is that his work relies on hearsay, if that at all.
