Yesterday or the day before you publish an article with a blatant lie as the headline (White House admits Bush Lied).

Shortly thereafter some smart Freepers question that Terrance Wilkinson exists.

All of a sudden you coincidentally discover that lo and behold those Freepers were correct, there is no such person as Terrance Wilkinson.

You have a history of at least a couple of very suspicious single-source stories, according to some Freepers whose opinions I respect.

Several months ago you posted some sort of admission/apology about another hit piece you had done on GWB. My memory on exactly what this was about is sketchy.

I think that is an excellent idea. Perhaps we should send one to Rush as well.

I have been concerned for some time that we have people here who are not really interested in advancing the conservative agenda, but post articles and opinions for some other purpose. While I am not questioning Mr. Thompson's motives at this time, I am certainly concerned that there was an immediate pick-up of this article by a leftist organization who managed to get it on the wires.

How many imposters are here ranting about the President? How many gossipy stories without corroboration are posted and get replies from those same frauds? Why is it that the stories get picked up by Sean, Rush, and other talk radio shows without THEIR thinking that perhaps all who are on this forum are not who they seem?

I have said this before and have caught a lot of flack for it. Maybe people will be a little more cautious now that we see what can come of erroneous sources and gullible people in the medea.

The problem is that now that you've made your mia culpa (which took some courage & for which we are appreciative), everything is just fine EXCEPT that the story is out there, all of them are out there, and NOTHING said will ever erase their voracity with the left.

No amount of explaning will deter the democrats and socialists out there from harping on GW Bush as the liar president. They have got to do it because they might have to admit to WJC otherwise, because they might have a slight chance of defeating President Bush if enough un-thinking morons listen and do not bother to read.

There is another possibility here. Doug may be conveniently getting rid of his fabricated source, now that it's been challenged. He knows nobody else can track down this fictitious person, so he makes that very fact the basis of his attempt at damage control.

Here is another troubling part of the retraction,

"His email address turns out to be a blind forward to a free email service where anyone can sign up and get an email account. Because it was not one of the usual "free" services like Hotmail, Yahoo or such, I did not recognize it as one (although you'd think that someone like me would have known better).

A "20 year old Reliable Source" and no way to contact him???? Why not post the email addy and the bogus phone numbers so we can all check them out, I just have a hard time believing this story until more proof of this "Con Job" is explained

All the business cards and telephone records in the world won't answer the obvious question (among many) of why the author didn't pick up the phone and call the White House to corroborate ANYONE'S claim to have sat in on presidential intel briefing--not to mention someone claiming to have witnessed the president committing a potentially impeachable offense.

The story was so blatantly dubious from the get-go that I would have fact-checked even my own father (and he's a retired FBI agent) before publishing the damn thing.
