Well then, I'll call it "functional sarcasm."

You haven't read the book have you? Her claim is the Democrat party cannot be trusted with national security. Of course there have been Democrats here and there who fought communism. Coulter makes that clear in the introduction. None of them did it very well, many aided communists, more than a few were traitors and others knew who the traitors were and lied about it is her point.

Did you read the book?My exact thought. This book completely changed my perception of Joseph McCarthy. I had heard some time ago about the Venona Papers confirming much of what McCarthy said. I just had no idea that they confirmed virtually everything he said and much much more. The press at the time barely gave the Venona Papers a passing mention. Go figure...

Do you really expect anyone to have any regard at all for your statements, when the ONLY TWO you have made since joining this forum
last year are
ad hominem ignorance aimed at Ms. Coulter?
I guess she's hit a nerve. Again.

Alright then, let's say that many were on the money. As Horowitz points out, many were not, as when McCarthy confused "being" a Soviet agent with "acting like" one (by writing articles sympathetic to the Soviets).

"Everyone who criticizes Ann's book replies with these vague, emotional empty statements." For sure. Witness all of 2iron's posts...both of them, in one year.
Seems many folks just cannot get past their emotional reactions against Ms. Coulter's writing style. Anyway, that's what they always attack. The central thesis, however, is apparently bulletproof, as it is never assailed.
For the emotionally distraught, I suppose the mudgobbing and deadcatting provides some release in the face of the awful TRUTH. Whatever works.

On the first page she states that liberals do not love America. That's nonsense.
Have I read the book? No. Nor will anyone else other than reviewers, journalists, and pure Ann Coulter true believers. In other words, it's unlikely she'll persuade many people to join the conservative camp; more likely that her book will push many away.

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." - Ann Coulter, September 13, 2001.Yeeeehhhaaaawww!!! Go Ann!! Bush is gittin' every last one of those dirty animals and puttin' them in their place! God bless America!
By this comment I take it that you believe these barbarians from the middle east don't have exactly that in mind for all of us? What a chump!

As a counter argument, I'd say that many Freepers are blinded by their hormones when it comes to weighing the arguments of Ann Coulter.

McCarthy was a pig and blackened the name of all those who legitimately fought communism. And who are those that "legitimately fought communism?" The democrats that were on the Soviet dole that McCarthy exposed?
McCarthy wasn't a pig, but his detractors were and are.

"As a counter argument, I'd say that many Freepers are blinded by their hormones when it comes to weighing the arguments of Ann Coulter." Not this one. I do not care for the bony look, and she is, to put it bluntly, too skinny.
Nonetheless, those defending her work, whatever their motives, have the historical truth on their side, as well as the facts. Their "hormones" are irrelevant.
The case remains...Coulter's book was quite truthful and accurate. Those who take issue with it do so, normally, on the irrelevant basis of "shrillness", or some other percieved annoyance.
It still leaves the central thesis intact.

it's unlikely she'll persuade many people to join the conservative camp; more likely that her book will push many away. Every left winger on the internet is chanting that prophecy in hopes it will come true. So are liberal columnists. Her publisher did an initial run of 200,000 copies. By the end of the first week, another 250,000 copies were printed to met the demand. Nobody read it? No..what is happening is the critics are being exposed because they have NOTHING to rebut it with except personal attacks.

I didn't say "nobody read it." But it's mostly being read by "true believers," not by swing voters. Moreover, the criticisms have not just been "personal attacks." I've read two in the past two days that come from thoughtful conservatives. When I see this happening I start to hear warning bells.

I actually find myself feeling a little guilty while reading Treason. She will come out with a on-the-mark, sarcastic zinger and I start LOL. I then think that I should not be laughing over such a serious - or is that series - subject matter. She bats them out of the park.

Do you believe General Marshall was part of a vast Communist conspiracy? McCarthy said he was and the awful thing about McCarthy was I'm sure even he didn't believe it. This country made it through the 20th century because of men like Marshall and in spite of people like McCarthy. Ignorance is bliss for a great many people who frequent this forum. My suggestion is to expand your horizons beyond opportunists like Coulter who have become millionaires by preaching to the choir and read a little history. But, that might require analytical thought so be careful before dipping your toe in.

You're missing some history, here, bub. :) HHH was the last of the anti-com liberals. When the Democratic party was taken over by the radical left wing in the late 60's (think: throwing feces at cops and such), folks like HHH and southern democrats were shut out. That's why you have so many ex-Dems in the GOP, because the party lurched left at that time.
