Many refer to Kirk as dated, passe or less than fully addressing todays questions. While his death was almost ten years ago, I think many of his thoughts will be pertinent for decades and centuries.
Do we think of Burke or Adams as outdated? Of course not. And neither should we categorize Burke, Hayek or Weaver as such.
Kirk is more relevant today than ever. His take on conservatism is far more a definition of that movement than Goldwater's. And with doctrinaire conservatism at an all-time low -- having been supplanted by the conservatism of convenience that Bush & Co. practice -- it is a good time to remind ourselves where the soul of our ideology lies.
