Sure does, not as much as if you'd bought the AR, but it does count. I'm pretty full up, and the piggy bank is near empty, but I still try to buy something at the shop or the show every time I go. Last time, early June, it was H&K G-3/91 magazines, but usually it's .45 ACP ammo. Even books about guns, gun manuals, and most especially books about the RKBA, count as well.
