The transformation of Western European civilization from clans and barbarity to a society of individuals and law is truly remarkable.
Somehow the philosophy of the Enlightenment took hold and changed our Western world. Unfortunately, it hasn't been adopted by the vast majority of the world.
If someone could bottle the recipe and make the rest of the world take a dose, he'd be revered forever as a peacemaker.

It has been bottled already - its called the Declaration of Idependance and the Bill of Rights. More people, including some members of the Supreme Court, should read them and contemplate their meaning.
