LOBAMBA Home Affairs minister Prince Sobandla is spitting fire following what he claims are serious allegations to the effect that he and the Director of Sports and Culture Maswazi Shongwe bewitch the national team, Sihlangu.
Speaking at a press conference held yesterday at the Somhlolo National Stadium where he had gone to inspect the stadium ahead of Sundays Castle Cup quarterfinal against Madagascar, an obviously angry Prince Sobandla attributed the allegation to the Football Association officials.
He said so serious is the matter that the FA executive had to hire a private coach, CI Transport (Colisani Inhliziyo) to take the national team to Johannesburg International Airport where they were to board a plane to Libya instead of a government bus normally used.
I have no reason to bewitch any person as I dont own Sihlangu, the Prince said.
Fears
He said he is now even afraid to go to the Somhlolo stadium as people will think that he wants to put muti in the field.
Against Botswana, I was praying for a win so that supporters dont beat me because they would think that I was the one who bewitched the team. Thank God, we won, he said.
Also speaking at the same conference was Director of Sports and Culture, Maswazi Shongwe who said he has met many people in the city who utter a lot of bad things, including that he bewitches Sihlangu.
Some of the things they say about me are very bad that it cant even be said to the public but I only tell them to my mother, Shongwe said.
He said he was surprised to see the driver returning to the office without the squads players.
When I asked Wonder (driver) why he was at the office, he said Lotata Dlamini (national team manager) sent him back with instructions from the president (FAs Patrick Kunene), he said.
FA president Patrick Kunene said he does not know anything about Prince Sobandlas allegation that some of his officials said the minister and Maswazi Shongwe are bewitching Sihlangu.
Can you point and prove that someone has bewitched you? Thats impossible. Therefore, theres no reason why we can say someone is using muti, he said

Did a century of Colonialization do NOTHING for Africa? These people seem to be moving BACKWARD at lightening speed. DID PREZ BEWITCH TEAM? Is that how the headline would read in the NY Post?
I read these posts and it makes me really want to read that book the American fellow wrote about how he went "back to Africa to look for his roots" and by the end of the story his attitude was: I have nothing in common with these people, I'm an American. I'm very sorry that I can't remember the Author's name, or the Book's title. Sorry I can't pass it along, and sorry, because I DO really want to read this. Maybe someone will know and post it, he was somewhat well known when he wrote it, not famous, but an already published writer, and no right-winger either.
I mean, this story might be somewhat amusing, but the post the other day about murdering the kid for witchcraft purposes to further a business venture sure wasn't.
Hey, say what you want about Western Capitalism, Enron (or whoever) aren't killing 8 year olds to increase their gains.
(AH! But still I can hear voices from the looney left saying "Western Capitalists hurt more people than African witchcraft ever could!" and they believe it.)

Researcher of the Month Award! Thanks for the honors, but I must plea "not eligible" as I heard this fine writer interviewed on the radio when it was first published, immediately bought his book and have recommended it ever since.
This is the third time I have provided this info on FR; I am glad to do so, and it is an indication of the resilience of this book on the minds of those who hear of it or have read it.
Incidentally, Camp of the Saints made an impression on me when it came out years ago. It was considered far-fetched, but had the ring of prophecy: look where we are today.
I hope Keith Richburg's book will make on impression, especially on American blacks, causing an Aha! monment, and have a similiar following twenty years from now.

Thanks happygrl, freepers are SO helpful and well informed. I should actually be able to remember that, since the title's a play on "Out of Africa" by Isak Dinensen. See, I usually DO have a good memory for these things. Did this same fellow write "Camp of the Saints" too, or is that someone else?
I'd say his book was suppressed, which it may have been to a certain extent, but there are sooooo many books published that I think sometimes the wheat gets lost in the chaff. And sometimes even in the rest of the wheat. But I'm bussing again, instead of driving, so I'll be a reading demon again and will definately add this one to the must read list.
Currently working on "The Pickwick Papers", only the third Dickens I've ever read. And LOVING IT!

Glad to hear you got off the road and are riding the bus. I found that when I have bussed over the years I feel so much better, simply due to the elimination of road rage. I am a much nicer person. Also it's great to have that chunk of time for oneself.
I've never read Pickwick Papers but I'll take your recommendation. I do love Dickens; though detailed, his writing is so rich with details and insights into the human condition. Also great historical/sociological information as well.
Happy reading!
