Tomorrow marks an important day for Iranians fighting for democracy. Demonstrations are scheduled to be held all over the world tonight and tomorrow in support of democracy in Iran. You can support democracy in Iran. See below.
On July 9, 1999, Iranian students protested against their dictatorial, Islamist government. The students were demanding democratic reforms. Their government responded with violence. Since 1999, July 9 has marked an important anniversary for freedom-loving Iranian citizens. The Iranian government is now acting to try to suppress any demonstrations. Students have vowed to defy the government ban on public protests, and return to the streets tomorrow. Iranians need our support.
If you can, please join world-wide demonstrations planned for tomorrow in support of democracy in Iran. Protests are scheduled in cities like Brussels, Rome, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Houston, and Dallas (click here for more information). Images of the protests will be beamed via satellite TV into Iran, so people there will know they have friends in the free world.
Please also lobby your elected representatives to support democracy in Iran.

(We not only showed up but came prepared with an American flag --just one of many there-- and a *real* Iranian flag, with the Sun and Lion, andLibreOuMort made a number of inexpensive pins with American and Iranian flags, and a dozen or two signs to wave. Some of the signs showed the Iranian flag with the word Freedom written in Farsi -- those who received those signs held on tight, and were featured prominently on the TV news report that aired a couple minutes ago.)
I had heard (on FR) that the Iranian-American community had felt a bit alone, but I think our presence helped. And I know we are more than simply welcome at future demonstrations.
To quote from an article from National Review Online today: "As lovers of freedom we should all join the Iranian-American community and stand in solidarity with the people of Iran." For us it was a rewarding experience.
