Well, I have to confess a hole in my Eastwood viewing in that I haven't seen Pale Rider. But OJW is one of my favorite flicks. I do, however, see there might be a little excess violence in the movie, with its two rape scenes and the deaths of probably more than a hundred.

That, however, doesn't disqualify it in my book, as the murderin' types end up getting theirs or looking quite the monstrous sort. What might disqualify it, is while it's entertaining, I'm not sure exactly what the message is.

Is it:

"Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?"

"Buzzards gotta eat...same as worms."

"When things look bad, and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb mad dog mean. Cause if you lose your head and you give up, then you neither live nor win, that's just the way it is."

Okay, maybe the theme IS conservative.
