Please Distribute Widely To All Gun Owners/Groups ----------------------------------- NRA MEMBERS' COUNCILS OF CALIFORNIA 07/08/2003 -----------------------------------
7/8/2003 1:45 PM - This message was just related by Ed Worley (your NRA state lobbyist, who is at the capitol) through Paul Payne (CA MC program administrator and Liaison to the Executive Vice President)...
AB50 just died in committee! The reason it died is because Senator McPherson changed his vote from a YES to a NO.
(You may recall that Ronnie Barrett recently sent a letter against AB 50 to Senator McPherson's office, which was widely circulated via http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/caspacial/barrett/)
It is imperative that we call, fax and email Sen. McPherson's office with THANKS! This marks the first time the senator has voted with us - let's show him how appreciative we are of those who protect the rights of law-abiding Californians!

NOTE: Technically, AB 50 was granted re-consideration, but it doesn't appear it can actually be heard again. The bill would again have to clear all policy committees, but none are scheduled. Accordingly, we believe the earliest AB 50 could return is next year.

We'll have to make sure this one stays dead. These things have a way of resurrecting when no one is paying attention. Another favorite trick - gut a bill that's failed, keep the bill number, and substitute the complete language of a bill like this one. Then, when people write, email, phone or FAX telling the assembly or senate folks to kill AB 50, why, no problem. They go ahead and pass AB 239 (or whatever new number they gave it). Dirty tricks.

The may sound strange but I think the Gray Davis recall has somthing to do with this..... The people rising up in a grass roots effort has puts the "fear of god" in all of them and its got many of them up in Sacramento thinking its best to lay low on any controversial issue for now

Not strange at all. I believe that you're absolutely correct.
To: Mike Haas
But wait, I thought McPherson was a dreaded
RINO????
How can this be?????
BTW I worked to elect him when I was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey. . . this is in 1996.
I wonder if all the RINO-haters will change their tune now. . .I doubt it.

But wait, I thought McPherson was a dreaded RINO????I know Bruce. He is a nice man, nice family. Terrible thing about his kid, it brought tears to my eyes.
I don't always see eye to eye with Bruce on a number of things, and have always told him about it, politely. However, Bruce represents a senate district that is overwhelmingly RAT city and got elected in an assembly district that was overwhelmingly RAT city. He works hard and that is admirable. Bruce for lt. gov. next time...

COB, check this out.

Bruce for lt. gov. next time...Maybe we can have Bruce get rid of our seditious traitor of a congressman, Sam Farr.
To: Mike Haas
Considering the massive coverup of the state's financial condition prior to the last election, perhaps the Assembly is too busy trying to ban rope.

This is how it came to me from the Fifty Caliber Shooters Association:
FCSPI Email Alert
Victory in CA!
Thanks to a last ditch effort by FCSPI and a team of pro-gun leaders, AB-50, Californias 50 caliber ban was defeated today in the Senate Public Safety Committee. FCSPI President John Burtt traveled to Sacramento to testify and was joined by the NRAs Ed Worley, California Rifle and Pistol Associations Jerry Upholt, Gun Owners of Californias Sam Paredes and Safari Clubs Kathy Lynch.
AB-50 had been pulled from last weeks committee schedule and in the interim, FCSPI presented Committee members with documented expert testimonials that dispelled the ridiculous anti-gun myths put forth by the backers of the 50 ban. The bill was heard today in Committee and defeated. It is effectively dead for this session, although we expect anti-gun forces to try again next year.
Supporters in California should take the time to thank two Senators whose votes were very important to this victory. Committee Chairman Senator Bruce McPherson (R-15) and Committee Vice-Chair John Vasconcellos (D-13) both took the time to hear the credible testimony and evidence put forth by FCSPI and cast votes that allowed the bill to die in Committee. You can find their contact info at www.sen.ca.gov be sure to take the time to thank them.

Any way you cut it, this is good news, even though it took a Democrat to make it happen!

Unfortunately, political acumen seems to be in extremely short supply when it comes to conservatives in California.
McPherson is as good as it gets in his district for Republicans. And he's better than a democrat any day of the week.

There are a few problems. One is illegal immigration and big agriculture that hires them. Another is the big union rip off (both private and public sector). Verification of voter eligibility, ecofascist junk science, too many people being dope smoking druggies, etc., etc... Some of the problem rests squarley with the Republicans rolling over. When Jim Brulte wanted to get rid of Peter Douglas on the Coastal Commission, a lot of Republicans (Bruce included) caved in to the Democrats. Also, many of the "conspiracy crowd" promote Leftist subterfuge to core conservative votes. I am very wary of those folks and their agent provocateurs.
