Ann's picture's out of focus. I'll keep my wisecracks about going blind to myself for once.

My contact lenses steam up too.

You saw her too? I couldn't agree more! Wasn't it great hearing her speak without hundreds of interruptions? Very informative and succinct information as well. Joe gave her plenty of air time which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Oh get real... Katrina always has her brow furrowed and her lips pursed like she's been sucking on lemons. I've never ever seen a more bitter looking female in my life!

"Even though his basic message actually merited attention, Tailgunner Joe sullied it with so many lies and exaggerations that today he would qualify for a job as a New York Times correspondent."

Finally, an article that will detail the lies and exaggerations of Tailgunner Joe! Seems like everyone else makes this claim without backing it up, it's commom knowledge don't ya know.

All of which prompted communist-turned-conservative Whittaker Chambers to note, in a letter to Henry Regnery on January 14th, 1954, his doubts about McCarthy:

"All of us, to one degree or another, have slowly come to question his judgment and to fear acutely that his flair for the sensational, his inaccuracies and distortions, his tendency to sacrifice the greater objective for the momentary effect, will lead him and us into trouble. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that we live in terror that Senator McCarthy will one day make some irreparable blunder which will play directly into the hands of our common enemy and discredit the whole anti-Communist effort for a long while to come."

Hmmm...perhaps he missed the more definitive quote from Mr. Chambers:

"Though McCarthy is sniffed at even by conservatives for his flamboyant rhetoric, in 'Witness', Chambers explains the importance of a fellow such as McCarthy. Referring to the Hiss hearings, Chambers writes that theatrics were 'almost the only weapon the commitee possessed.' Without a 'flair for showmanship,' the committee's extremely important work exposing the Communist conspiracy would have been smothered in silence and reduced to nullity."

Like your tag line, the peseudo conservatives are everywhere..

For example the armchair generals who are out in force after Ann's latest book...

Here is what I think so many so called conservatives or anti- left/ liberals overlook..

Somebody has to carry the can for allowing things to become this bad. If the battle between the "left" and "right" was compared to a real battle, there would need to be an inquiry into why the right has lost so badly, and what the hell were its commanders thinking and doing to allow such a comprehensive defeat.

The people on the co called anti-left side who are critical of Coulter are the very people who are responsible for losing the war.

These are the incompetent generals who have been completely out- guessed out-smarted and completely routed by a more aggressive and well organised force.

To hell them. They are the navel gazing losers who through their spineless compromises, got us into this mess.

Ann's not a navel gazing back room general, she is out there on the front line firing rocket launchers and tossing grenades.

And compared to so many of the left, Angelic Ann is a mere pussy cat. Many of the immoral vermin leftist liberals will only be defeated by fire that has ten times the power of Ann's heroic efforts.

"But geeez! Tailgunner Joe McCarthy, an America hero?

C'mon Ann. Tell us that maybe that's a wee bit of an exaggeration...that perhaps you got carried away in making your point about the merit of the McCarthy message. But surely you don't really mean it about the man being a political hero.

Please Ann. Say it ain't so, about Joe! "

What? That's it!! Where's the beef!

Iconoclast.ca "Puncturing Today's Prevailing Wisdom?"

They need to change their motto to:

"Patching up Today's Liberal Prevailing Wisdom"

A very disappointing oped piece. I guess it had to be posted for completeness sake, but what a waste of bandwidth!

I'm not the biggest Coulter fan, but her quip about being at a 3-1 weight disadvantage against Clinton was pretty mean. And funny.

Having lived through the McCarthy era I can tell you that he was not the devil the libs made him out to be. Think Newt Gingrich. He was right and the libs were frightened to death of him, just as they were of Newt, so the only thing to do was to demonize him. It's always been the tool of choice for liberals. Destroy a person's reputation. Monica was a stalker...etc.

One of my ancestors is described in the history books as a "Baronial Ruffian."

I am kind of proud of that, in a wierd sort of way.

(He was the Baron of Ashby de la Zouche, Humberside, England)

When combating the libs one has to fight on their level, because subscribing to the Marquis of Queensbury rules will only encourage the libs to fight dirtier. Get in the gutter with them and they collapse, since they are totally unfamiliar with fighting anyone who fights back with a vengeance. When dealing with the libs, the maxim should be "go for the jugular!"

Destroying a person's reputation is THE WEAPON OF CHOICE for libs. It is the only thing they have in their arsenal because they cannot win on logic or the facts.

Thanks for the insight, as one who lived through the era in question. I think it would be great to have more first hand accounts of the times. Any other FReepers want to add your two cents here?

Hmmm...a fun idea for a thread might be for freepers to talk about their famous (or infamous) ancestors and relatives.
