Professor Hawking cannot walk, stand, feed himself, speak, or write. He has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, hence you can hardly criticise the state of his teeth! Even though he is severely disabled he has contributed more towards developing a theory of the origin of the universe than almost any other person in the latter part of the twentieth century.

I am quite aware of that, which is why my comment asked why anyone doesn't brush his teeth, not why he doesn't brush his teeth. After all, his handlers dress him and wipe his butt, they can at least brush his teeth!
