Ted Bundy's parents were good. Diane Downs parents gave her everything. There is not always an explanation and that is because a sociopath is its own entity.

Diane Downs shot her three children in order to make herself available for the man she obsessively loved.
Susan Smith is the same.

Things cannot always be compared to a child's upbringing. Surmissing it is a single parent home, traumas, moving, etc. do not come into play with be a sociopath.

Profile of a Sociopath A number of mind-manipulating cult leaders may exhibit many of the behavioral characteristics of a sociopath--an outstanding ability to charm and seduce followers. Since they appear apparently normal, they are not easily recognizable as deviant or disturbed. Although only a trained professional can make a diagnosis, it is important to be able to recognize the personality type in order to avoid further abuse. These traits also apply to a one-on-one cultic relationship.

Treatments for Antisocial Personality Disorder Research done by Stephanie Gramza for Psychology 309, University of Wisconsin - Marinette

Unfortunately there are few treatments that have proven effective for antisocial personality disorder. The problem lies not in the lack of possible treatments themselves but more within the people who have this disorder. Those who suffer from antisocial personality disorder do not see themselves in need of treatment, therefore, they rarely seek out any help. In fact, only about one-quarter of people with this disorder actually receive treatment and one study showed that out of those that do receive help 70% left this treatment prematurely (Gabbard & Coyne, 1987).

The idea is that reasoning adults (not like the kid who was cruel for kicks) decide they can't take proper care of the animal and it would suffer or be a harm if left to its own devices. So they put it to as painless a death as possible, which especially if the methods are crude means as quickly as possible. Good grief I hope you aren't comparing injuring an animal for kicks, to managing the livestock and beasts on a farm.

I would look, for example, for DNA in places where it shouldn't be, if you catch my drift.

The perfect description of a genetic u-turn, thank you!

My child had a dissociative personality disorder. She was a sociopathic liar at 4! That doesn't come from any abuse. This was all examined through years of hospitalization, counseling, hers and ours. Abuse is not a blanket answer for when children act out Wife, sorry but thats an illusion.

O nly genetic altering can do that. Hormone replacement etc.

May be the empirical status quo today, but to state that as everlasting dictum kind of sounds like the surgeon/barbers who could only prescribe various bleedings centuries ago.

Two thoughts... I am familiar with the Diane Downs and Ted Bundy cases, and I do understand that they are sociopaths. However, I cannot say the same about the young eight year old boy, because I am not privy to his psychiatrist's diagnosis, and I cannot state whether or not the following applies to his case,

"an outstanding ability to charm and seduce followers. Since they appear apparently normal, they are not easily recognizable as deviant or disturbed."

And, when speaking of suffering, I am not just talking about parental abuse. Dahmer's parents weren't abusive, from my understanding, either.

The suffering of the human soul is my concern. And it saddens me for people to damn this child to hell, when the fact remains that if he is mentally disturbed due to being a sociopath or other causes, he is not held to the same standards of damnation by the criminal courts, or God. If the courts find him guilty, he will be placed in a mental instution, or so I hope. And, the judgement of God seems to call for compassion, when dealing with those who suffer from any type of mental disabilities, for whatever reason.

Herein lies the key, you said,"to take responsibility" A sociopath never see's themselves as wrong, they never act responsibly. They mimic what they seeing other's do. Thus, how Bundy could lure his victims. They act their way through life.

I am not blaming your child's behavior on abuse.

But, how can you rule out any specter of abuse with the eight year old, out of hand? He might be a sociopath... he also might be a victim of abuse. Many victims of abuse go on to victimize others weaker than them. I do not know, if he hasn't been abused, and neither do you.

I would suspect that one of the most difficult parts of his recovery will be willing to accept his actions, to take responsibility, and then to move FORWARD, in a new direction.

I was speaking of salvation from God, which calls for redemption, which means accepting your sins, and actively chosing not to commit sinful acts, again. God's redemption is set at different standards for those who suffer from any mental disabilities, I am certain.

Even in the worst cases, brain and soul need not be presumed in lockstep. Brain is the piano, soul is the musician, and conscious mind is the music. It could be a situation of "don't shoot the piano player - he's doing the best he can."

Oh, I firmly agree. God of course knows the mental state of this child, knows the heart of the child, and then judges accordingly. I have no difficulty with that concept at all.

They act their way through life.

This is a sin shared in greater or lesser respects by all mortals. There is no stark boundary, though certainly we can tell the difference between, say, a Mother Theresa and a Charles Manson. The rest of us are somewhere in between.

Your right there is a lot of human and spiritual suffering. I have known many personally I put in a league I call the Forsaken ones. No matter how much we do Wife, no matter how much love we give, tons of attention, well, sadly it does not work.

This in no way excuses the sin... but God has defined where the answer to the sin lies, and it isn't in trying to bear our own sin, it's in carrying our lives, sin and all, to be borne by Jesus Christ on the cross.
