July 8, 2003 -- The CIA has determined that Saddam Hussein is alive. Funny: It was the CIA that determined Saddam was hiding in a Baghdad bunker on March 20, leading President Bush to begin the war on Iraq two days early with a massive cluster-bomb attack on Saddam himself. Then the CIA heard Saddam was at a restaurant in southwest Baghdad on April 7, and another massive strike leveled the place.

The gloves came off 20 months ago. I would think to give the spooks a little more time to buy their way into some better spies on the ground. It's not easy getting to the bottom of that snake pit, in my opinion

The Restaurant at Al Mansur was not levelled. The building took superficial damage as the weapons came down in the residential area in close proximity.

William F. Buckley once quoted a wonderful Reuters' story from the 1950's about the CIA's competence, concerning then-President Sukarno of Indonesia. "It was a typical CIA assassination attempt. Everyone was killed but Sukarno."
