SINGAPORE -- Shares of Raffles Medical Group, the company behind the world-first operation to separate adult twins joined at the head, soared nearly 19 per cent on Monday amid hopes the high-profile surgery would succeed, analysts said.
Raffles Medical Group finished at 44.5 Singapore cents, up seven cents, or 18.7 per cent, from Friday's close.
Raffles Medical Group runs the Raffles Hospital in Singapore, where Laleh and Ladan Bijani, the Iranian adult twins, were into their second day on Monday of a potentially fatal operation to be separated after 29 years of being fused at the head.
The sharp rise in the stock 'was expected because of the headline-grabbing' operation, UOB Kay Hian Securities executive director John Yap said, referring to the global publicity generated by the surgery.
Doctors said on Monday they were cautiously optimistic the operation, which began on Sunday morning and is expected to last more than two days, would succeed.
The hospital released no other statements before the close of trade on Monday.

Sir Stamford Raffles - founder of modern Singapore.
A famous Five Star Hotel is named after him too. The hotel's bar, "The Long Bar" invented the Singapore Sling.
Beautiful place and quite expensive!

Might be so, but they're incompetent morons. Both twins are dead, thanks to the hospital's gross negligence. Lawsuits are in order.

According to International News Agencies reports, the Twins had originally seek German Medical opinion, before S'pore, and were toldby the German Medical experts, that if they undergo surgery to separate, they would DIE, so they went in with both eyes wide opened
May the Good Lord take them into Heaven and let them rest in eternal peace

Might be so, but they're incompetent morons. Both twins are dead, thanks to the hospital's gross negligence. What the hell are you ranting about? Both twins are dead because it was an incredibly risky operation that didn't work out for them.
Well, at least you didn't call them "subhuman".
To: Prodigal Son
Right, I agree with you
The S'pore doctors had warned the Twins, that the possibility is quite probable that:
either one of them would die
both of them would die
or both would suffer severe ,fatal brain damage
And yet the Twins had made their decision and choice to go ahead with the ops

What you've got to understand about that poster is the typical response you hear from her/it/him is "Subhuman" this and "subhuman" that, "Turd world" this and "Turd world" that. "Deport all
US citizens who are Muslims" is a typical response I've seen.
Just ignorance or trolling.
To: Hinoki Cypress
I was commenting on the history of naming the hospital.
Crawl back under your rock jerk.
It was a high risk surgery and even though hundreds of people tried to make it a success it wasn't.
Maybe they needed your expertise. Tell us what you would do differently. Give us the surgical procedures that you would change. Give us details.
Or STFU.

What a tragedy. But the twins knew that there was a terribly high risk in surgery. FYI, maybe you need to know that it was an international surgical team. Even including American doctors. No question, it was a top notch team.
To: Eaker
Their condition prior to surgery wasn't life threatening, troll. It was unnecessary and led to their deaths. Bite me.
