Why? Our judges (tyrants in black robes) will just say "No."

After Kali implodes, it may come back on line as Aztlan.

Hearing canceled at the request of author.

We need to keep an eye on these treacherous snakes. I saw on another site (could have been Cal. Rifle and Pistol Assoc., I don't remember) that the bill isn't dead, and that it could come up for another hearing as early as tomorrow.

One of the constants seen in almost all discussions about banning the .50 is the remark about the round going through a limo. This is what has the politicians scared to death.

They know that they eventually will be held to account for their misdeeds, and they have to come out sometime.

I get really tired of this kind of idiotic crap. Do you really think that if California goes down the tubes that the same problems won't wind up on your doorstep? Do you really think the liberals will sit on their heels or will they move on to their next target of opportunity as California's problems drag down the rest of the country? Haven't you noticed how many bureaucrats and illegals seem to be inhabiting Western states? Look at what happened to Arizona.

Conservatives who run away from their principles at the sign of trouble don't deserve the Constitutional rights they won't defend.

I'll plagerize part of my answer from Blood of Tyrants' post #19:

IMHO, the only was to save Californication is to allow it to implode. Just as when a parent continually rescues a foolish teen from suffering the consequences of his/her actions only leads the teen to perform even more foolish stunts, rescuing California only emboldens the Rats to greater feats of tyranny.

Thus, B of T hits the nail on the head - sometimes a political system, just like an immature teenager, needs a rude awakening. As an example, without Carter and his disasterous economic and foreign policies, we'd have never gotten Reagan. In this case, if the policies that all of the liberal wackos have voted for over the last 30 years end up driving out a significant percentage of the productive people and companies in California, and severely hurt those that stay, then tax revenues will plummet even more than they have to date. Result: an even bigger budget crisis, leading to a disaster - which MIGHT wake up some of the "moderates" out there to start voting for people like Simon or other conservatives. Heck, such a situation might even be used as an object lesson for other states, much as parents use other families' kids as negative examples (don't do what California did, Texas, or you'll end up broke and scorned...)

Another thing to consider is that I was kidding! Understand, people on FR like to compare California, NJ and Mass. to Communist Eastern European dictatorships, and to kid around about "escaping" from one, as if we had illicitly crossed the Berlin Wall. Being formerly from NJ (I left for non-political reasons, but enjoy those benefits nonetheless), I know that you few conservatives in California are under enormous stress - living with high (and rising) taxes, more and more intrusive government, loss of basic rights like the RKBA, etc. - but try to lighten up a bit.

Unfortunately, the Republicans who have gotten in office lately have shown little backbone when it comes to making the "tough" decisions about which unconstitutional and unnessary programs and departments to cut.

This is nothing to "lighten up" about. You DO remember how it was that we got the New Deal? This state is on the brink of taking the rest of the country with it. Who but the few remaining conservatives are going to pick up the pieces or educate those who might be savable?

Running away won't fix it.

A representative of the Los Angeles Police Department with 26 years on the job admitted that in all that time he had never run into a single .50 caliber rifle involved in any way with any criminal activity. Not once.

“Well then explain to me Officer, how is it that you don’t want to ban things that have killed people, yet you want to ban something that you admit has never killed anyone and has never been used in any sort of crime?” Speechless, the officer mumbled and backed away from the microphone.

Look you people, if you expect LEO's to champion your 2nd. Amendment rights, IMHO, it's expecting the fox to guard the coup. LEO's are government employee's and not prone to independent, abstract thought. They may be members of the NRA, teach gun safety, etc., but in the bitter end, they won't bite the hand that feeds them in Sacramento or imperil their rights to carry, open or concealed to protect your basic right to self defense. It's too bad, but that's just the way it is.

Just an hour earlier, Assemblywoman Goldberg found ample passion to debate a law that would make it illegal for a sports-event spectator to hurl his cellphone at an athlete,...

Once Jackie Goldberg was elected to the legislature in Sacramento, I knew California was finished. It's not that she's a Lesbian. It's not that she's fat. It's not that she's a Democrat. It is because Jackie Goldberg is a world class nit-wit. That someone so shallow and bereft of sentient existence could be an assembly "person" is truly beyond bizarre.

Why don't you get out of that $#@*hole state, while you can?

I get really tired of this kind of idiotic crap.

So do I. You know the majority of these socialist's come from the East. Gray Davis and Barbara Boxer are from Brooklyn, Koretz, if he's not from NY, his parents are. Californians aren't commies, but we sure get a lot from the other states, probably yours, Ancesthntr. Trouble is, these out of state commies meet here, have offspring and the offspring for looking for an elected government job, maybe in your state. Everything that's wrong with California came from the East. I'd rather have more Mexicans, than East Coast Commies.

The way to beat the gun-grabbers in Cali would seem to be in the newly popular ballot initiative.

We did, where have you been?

California's Proposition 15 -- On 11/2/82, by 63%-37%, Californians defeated a handgun ban initiative that anti-gun groups and their allies in the press were sure would be over whelmingly approved. An estimated 250,000 Californians registered to vote solely because of the handgun issue; 54 of California's 58 sheriffs opposed the proposal. The Washington Post reported that the Director of the Nat'l Coalition to Ban Handguns called the vote "a temporary glitch." On 5/6/83, Pres. Ronald Reagan, a two-term California governor, commended NRA for helping to defeat the ban, saying, "You shocked California last November when you mobilized to help send Proposition 15 down to defeat. You pointed out that police would be so busy arresting handgun owners, they would be unable to protect the people against criminals. It's a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun control laws. I happen to know this from personal experience." (http://kcnetwork.net/defense/handgun-wars.htm)

At one point they claimed that the .50 could "bring down a helicopter in one shot."

I wrote a letter to the editor (not published):

"I'm certainly glad someone is finally doing something about this rash of helicopter shooting. One of them fell in my back yard yesterday. The fellow who shot it only winged it; I had to put it out of its misery."

I wonder why they didn't print it.

Ted Kennedy has killed more people
than 99.999% of all gun owners.
Ted Kennedy has killed more people
than all .50 cal. owners combined.
